Many people keep long lists of small jobs: answer an email, wash a cup, put a letter in the mailbox. The list grows, and it starts to feel heavy. The two-minute rule is a simple idea: if a task takes less than two minutes, do it right now.

The idea was made popular by David Allen, a writer who teaches people how to organize their work. His reason is simple. Writing a tiny task down, reading it again later and remembering it all take time. Often, that takes longer than just doing the task.
